Just a few things we have been up to lately.

The same friend that taught me how to can chicken recently taught me how to can peaches. I bought 46 pounds (2 cases) of peaches and headed out to her house with quart mason jars.

Here is where you put them in an ice bath (to cool after being in boiling water) so you can 'slip' the skins off. Then they went in another bowl of Vitamin C water (ascorbic acid to maintain color) then cut and into the sink strainer before being canned.

7 jars are canned and now in a water bath - boiling water for about 20 minutes.

The finished product cooling. (I was thankful that it areas the red pit area is the same color as the rest of the peach. Figured my boys would take one look at the red on the peach and not touch it)

We have not tasted them yet, because I had to leave them at my friend's house until they were cooled down. Jbird is my huge canned peach eater. We ended up with 21 quart jars! Hopefully that will last us through the winter.

I saw this idea on pinterest and wish I had thought of it before. An easy, economical way for JB to practice his letters and drawing. Salt in a pie tin.

I am always trying to think of fun, yet easy snack ideas for the boys. One day in the grocery store, I decided to buy 1 of several variety of apples, along with caramel dip, so we could have an apple tasting party. I have never really compared apples to see what I, or the boys like. I bought a gala, braeburn, fuji, pink lady, granny smith and red delicious.

I was surprised..the hands down winner was the tartness of the granny smith with the sweet of the caramel.

B back in the kitchen!

Low key weekend. Went to the annual Fall Festival today (pictures to follow). Then church in the morning, followed by soccer (pictures to follow).
