While Benjamin was at camp, I took the younger 2 camping. Some friends met us out there. It is one of our favorite spots. We spent one night.
The boys wanted their own tent, so they attempted to work together and set it up. However, mom had to finish the job.
The tough guys playing in the river. Because it was later in the summer, the river was really low and therefore no concern with deep water.
I like this photo. I was working on my camera setting and was able to get a good picture of him but
blurry background as he sped by.
This is the cave the boys always like to climb up to. Doesn't look that steep, but it is a bugger to get up.
I took the longer, easier way up...here is Joseph struggling. I am thinking Jacob climbed down to help him.
There is a small passage way that opens up to a larger cave. I always make sure I stay down below.
We cooked lots of corn on the fire. Took awhile but sure was good.
Lots of hot dogs and marshmallows...nothing like good campfire food.
The weather was great. We only had a tiny bit of rain, not much wind, perfect temperature, etc.
I have been talking a lot about responsibility with the boys and what that looks like. There were some weather reports stating some heavy wind, rain and hail. We decided with the tree cover to go ahead and stay the night. Before the boys went to bed, I made sure the van was cleaned out, seats reclined and blankets inside. I told the boys if they woke up in the middle of the night and were cold, etc to go get in the van. Well, from my tent, I heard Joseph coughing in the middle of the night. A short time later I heard what I thought was a van door closing, but I had never heard a tent zipper or foot steps. So I did not think much of it. However, in the morning I saw Joseph in the van sleeping. I was somewhat proud of him for 'taking care of himself'. Then he woke up and told me he had thrown up in the middle of the night in the tent and that is why he was in the van. Then I felt horrible that he did not even come wake me up!! Fortunately, the tent was a relatively easy clean. He did throw up again before we left the campsite but whatever it was, was short lived.
This might be our only camping excursion this summer, since the wild fires have set in and smoke is just gross. I ended up with a nasty head cold and am thinking the smoke was partly to blame.
A quiet Labor Day ahead. We have no plans! Might take the boys into town to see if they can get any summer clothes on sale. There is a possibility of snow in the mountains too!
